Boston Scientific creates 45 new jobs in Galway

An investment of €91m has been announced at the Boston Scientific plant in Galway city, leading to the immediate creation of 45 jobs at the medical devices company.

Boston Scientific Senior Vice President Hank Kucheman highlighted the ongoing successful performance of the Galway plant.

He said the highly-educated and technically skilled workforce at Ballybrit was a key part of the decision to make further strategic investment there.

Earlier this year, the company announced that its Donegal facility would close in 2010 with manufacturing moving to Galway. There are currently 3,000 people working at Boston Scientific’s Galway site.

Capital city Dublin was dealt a severe jobs blow when a leading multinational announced 120 voluntary redundancies. Galway waits nervously on the outcome of a general meeting at Celestica and Donegal is dealt a jobs blow by Boston Scientific. Read all the latest jobs news in Ireland.

Boston Scientific plans to move its manufacturing plant from Donegal to Galway. The Donegal plant employs 120 staff which is a sever blow for the region. The opportunity will be available for some workers in Galway.

IBM is seeking 120 voluntary redundancies at its plant in Mulhuddart. This is due to plans to relocate manufacturing of high-end computer servers to a plant in Singapore.

Celestica in Galway are due to hold a general meeting for staff this week to discuss the future of the facility. The electronics company employs 380 people in Galway and reduced working hours last week. The Canadian firm also closed a factory in the US last week at a cost of 590 jobs.

Boston Scientific close plant in Tullamore with 200+ jobs lost

Tullamore recieved a major jobs blow today with the news that Boston Scientific will close operations with the loss of about 250 jobs. I only commented earlier that the once solid Pharma/Medical Device sectors are not avoiding the impact of the global recession. Cork had bad news also with the loss for 250 job with a Civil Engineering company closing operations. Perhaps this news is not surprising with the current woes in the construction sector.
