Braun cuts 160 jobs in Carlow closure
160 are being lost in Carlow with the closure of the Braun factory. The company has issued a statement which says 100 employees out of the current workforce of 260 will be transferred to their Newbridge plant, but this will mean the loss of 160 jobs.
The transfer will happen by the middle of next year, the company says. The move followed a review of the Carlow plant after one the products it manufactures was phased out.
Braun decided to phase out its gas-powered cordless haircare business by June 2009 due to a drop in consumer demand over the past few years.
Braun, which is owned by Procter & Gamble, said the move was the best option for its Irish business and would ensure its long-term viability.
