GOA Jobs – Dell, Motorola, Flextronics & Citco Jobs News

Ireland got a huge jobs boost from the gaming sector this week when GOA, mobile operator Orange’s online games unit, announced it was setting up an operations and customer support centre in Dublin. The company will locate at the Digital Hub and it will create 400 jobs.

GOA specialises in (MMORPG) – massively multiplayer online role playing games. These are online computer role-playing games (RPG) in which many players interact in a virtual world. World of Warcraft is one of the best know games and it has over 11 million monthly subscribers.

Other Job News in Ireland.

This other news is not so good and focuses on the Electronic Sector.

Motorola has announced 3,000 job cuts globally.

In Limerick there were job cuts at Dell with 400 temp staff loosing their jobs. This has raised general fears from the 3,000 permanent staff at the company.

Also in Limerick there are fears for 100 jobs at Flextronics. The company supports firms like Dell with Warehousing solutions and employs 290 staff in Limerick.

Finally

Banking and Finance was served a jobs blow with the announcement that CITCO will cuts jobs in the IFSC. Only a few months back it was reported off expansions for the company in Cork. This may now be put on the back burner.

CITCO Fund Services create 150 jobs in Cork

Looks like Dublin and the IFSC have some future competition for Financial Services companies and jobs. Yes the other capital of Ireland had some good news in that CITCO fund services had announced the creation of 150 jobs in Cork. CITCO currently have operations in the IFSC and 145 existing staff in cork.

This is great news for the region particularly those graduates who are keen on working in the sector but did not fancy relocating to Dublin. The majority of the new jobs created will be for 3rd level business/accountancy or financial graduates.

Banking and Finance sector is now a huge employer in Ireland with the Fund administration sector employing 9000 staff. Ireland has a total of 40 hedge fund administration related companies.

So why did CITCO choose cork?

CITCO’s MD for Ireland said it was the positive experiences on the ground and the support of the people in the area.
