Xerox cut 3,000 jobs & other Irish Jobs News.
Hot on the heels of Yahoo’s announcement that it will cut 10 percent of its global workforce (1,500 staff, Xerox announced it plans to cut 3,000 jobs across the globe. Xerox broke the negative job news as it released its quarterly earnings figures. They posted a 2% increase in profits but the slowdown in orders forced their hand to announce 1,500 job losses. Xerox has cut its workforce by just short of 9,000 since 2005.
Closer to home Cavan Town received some positive news with the creation of 70 new jobs in the region. Pauwels Trafo Ireland will create the new jobs as part of a 12m investment at its manufacturing facility. The company manufactures wind transformers. Dublin also received a similar boost when Microsol announced that it would be investing in Research & Development at its facility off Pearse Street in D2.
There has been a steady flow of R&D related announcements but unfortunately job loss announcements are greatly outweighing them. R&D jobs are sought after by the government but they generally do not offer high volumes of jobs.
